Schools Legal Service is a joint powers entity providing legal and collective bargaining services to California public education agencies since 1976.
Who We Are
Schools Legal Service is a legal services consortium serving school and community college districts and county offices of education since 1976. The first such agency of its kind in California, the service is administered by the Kern County Superintendent of Schools, a statewide leader in education, technology, insurance and other cost-effective services to school agencies. Based in Bakersfield, Schools Legal Service serves agency members throughout the state.
At Schools Legal Service we understand the needs of our educational agency clients. Our governing board is made up of representatives of our school and community college districts and county office of education members. Members include small and large school districts, both urban and rural, with the governing board structured to insure input from each.
What We Do
Members pay a minimum annual fee for legal services based on student enrollment;collective bargaining services are provided for an additional fee based on district size and number of bargaining units. (Fees allocated to hours of collective bargaining services rendered and related expenses are generally recoverable as mandated costs).
